Circular Economy Alphabet is a place in this blog, where we’re discussing interesting and at the same time confusing words and abbreviations from the sustainability world. And for sure, I’m starting with the “A” letter. By the way, did you know that approximately 35% of words in English are started with “A”? And from all these words I choose “Awareness”, as I am sure that it’s the key to spreading the “virus” of circular economy ideas.
How do I realize that awareness is the key?
I’ve been pretending to be an eco-blogger for the last 2 years – that’s how I realized the importance of awareness among my friends and colleagues about sustainability. From time to time I think that everybody knows the same information that I know.
That is a trap! Yeeeep!
It’s such an illusion to think that if I shared something on my Instagram page it would automatically become everyone’s priority and knowledge. Unfortunately, no.
3 reasons to be aware about circular economy
Reason N1
Savings – yees! I know where to start from right? 🙂
But this is the fact, knowing some cool projects in the circular economy could literally save you money. I know, I know! Examples! Food waste management applications like Too Good To Go and Foodsi are helping you to find some cool food with a huuuuuge discount. I have been talking about these apps for ages! But a close friend of mine recently came to me absolutely amazed and started to share like it’s totally new information for him. Now he is a loyal client of these apps and yes, it’s a legal way to try some new food and save money.
Another example. I like bicycle trips, and due to circumstances, I have no opportunity to have my own bike now. Buuut! Across the whole of Europe, you can find plenty of projects that offer you to rent a city bike for a very small fee. The sharing economy is part of the circular economy – so consider such options to save money using rented bicycles, cars, and even libraries are using the same approach.
Reason N2
Another reason is to make better consumer choices: being aware of such things as greenwashing, deposit Return Schemes, the meaning of the recycling signs, and types of plastic will help you to choose healthy, more durable, and more sustainable items.
Reason N3
Circular Economy is a relatively new area and is considered to become a booster for economic growth. The World Economic Forum estimates that transitioning to a circular economy could create up to 1.2 million jobs in the United States by 2030. And it’s only US and we’re speaking about purely new jobs. Can you imagine the whole scale? But what about jobs that would be adjusted, or modified by circular economy? It’s already there and it’s a question of time when it’ll affect you and your life. And better to be aware in advance, right?
But it’s of course your deal, no pressure at all 😀
Instead of conclusion
To be honest I can not overestimate the power of awareness. If I could – I would bring the ladder to raise the awareness to new heights!
It’s the source of inspiration for an individual’s actions. Awareness is the key to changing daily non-sustainable habits and the accelerator to bring changes in society.
So, let’s spread the word, share knowledge, and make informed choices for a better, more sustainable future!
