This blog post is supporting my Travel & Recycle video about Montenegro. Make sure to check it – you will not regret , as I shared there things that I did not notice here.
(but if you will – drop me a comment, please! – I want to improve my content 🙂 with your feedback)
Transport
Local taxi services list (nor Bolt, nor Uber is available in Montenegro):
- Nas taxi (have an app)
- Tesla taxi (have an app)
- Zeta taxi (from airport to the city)
- E-taxi
- Pezo taxi
- City taxi
The location near Podgorica airport where you can catch any other taxi is near DHL service point (~15 min walk from airport entrance). The main difference will be : you will have an information about the price in advance via application, while prices themselves should be approximately the same.
Bus ticket service in Montenegro is Busticket4.me. Please note that purchasing tickets online has advantage: you can be sure that your place is reserved; but also there are disadvantages too: online commission is 3 EUR and also you are obliged to print tickets.
Train schedule can be checked online on the website zpcg.me. But the buying of the tickets possible only offline, on the train station.
Nature & Hiking
5 national parks are waiting for you in Montenegro: Prokletje, Durmitor, Biogradska Gora, Skadarsko Jezero and Lovcen.
National parks are amazing for hiking and I recommend you to check my hiking in Prokletje blog post, where I described a circled-route through the gorgeous Hrid Lake.
The best start to explore them all is to follow the very cool Instagram Page of the National Parks of Montenegro. The team is sharing amazing view, important alerts and just daily life of animals, birds and other creatures!
The entrance to all parks is paid, but fee can vary from park to park. During the national holidays the entrance to all parks is free of charge, but expect that it could be more crowds as well. Consider to buy an annual path (valid during one calendar year), it costs 13.50 EUR in 2025: which can be quite a good idea, especially if you plan to visit several (or all) National Parks in Montenegro.

But you can explore the nature even not going to national parks in Montenegro, actually! Even in big and touristic cities, like Podgorica, Bar and Kotor you can find very cool (and easy) hiking paths that can bring you a lot of joy. In Podgorica I strongly recommend you visit my favorite Gorica park – my personal heaven on earth! In Kotor I strongly recommend you the path that start here (close to the city center) and lead to the top of the mountain where you can see very beautiful panorama of Boko Kotor Bay (check my Youtube video, where I am showing you the views from this path).
Composting
Project that you must be aware of is Urbana Basta Podgorica. It’s a public garden where there is a composting facility. You can
Recycling & Composting
I’ve covered this topic in dedicated post Recycling in Montenegro, so strongly encourage you to check it before your travel to this magic country and support local sustainable initiatives.
Things I did not mention in the video, but they are important
You should pay a tourist tax once arrived to Montenegro – at the first date. If you live in hotel most probably the personal will take care (but better to check). But if you live in apartments then ask your host, as both of you should arrive to the tourist tax office for that procedure (alternative option, but very risky will be to give your passport to the host – NOT recommend to do it).
As well as I do not recommend you to skip paying this tax: the verification of the payment can easily be done on the border: ideally you should keep the receipt (pink paper) with you during the whole travel.
Please note that tax offices are not working on Sunday (like everything else too), so in case you arrived on Sunday (or Saturday evening) you should come to the tourist office on Monday morning – it’s fine. But again, please do not delay or skip this process.
Please let me know if you need some more useful details about sustainable travel in one of my favorite countries: the easiest way to find me it’s to know in DM on my Instagram Page: https://www.instagram.com/travel_and_recycle/
